SUMMARY:

Viticulture in the Serra Gaúcha, initiated by Italian colonization in mid-1885, was based on Bordeaux mixture for the treatment of fungal diseases, the first fungicide discovered and used worldwide. Its main composition is copper, considered a heavy metal, which is not absorbed by plant tissues, nor degraded in the soil, it ends up accumulating and remaining indefinitely as a contaminant, causing toxic effects on plants and soil microorganisms, offering risks of environmental imbalances. Copper is still being widely used in the formulations of registered contact fungicides, for the prevention of the oomycete Plasmopara vitícola., known as downy mildew. This disease is considered the main obstacle to viticulture in the region and in different parts of the world, as climatic conditions such as high precipitation, high relative humidity and long periods of humidity on leaves and fruits can develop the pathogen and reach 100% of production beyond that the varieties of vines used are susceptible, requiring massive applications of fungicides to control the disease and increasing the cost of production. Therefore, the objective of this work will be to evaluate commercial fungicides, which have different formulations with copper compared to the use of Bordeaux mixture, regarding their efficiency in controlling downy mildew in leaves and bunches, and possible quantitative and qualitative changes in the must, of the Isabel variety. The vineyard will have trellis conduction with 5 years of implantation, in the municipality of Antônio Prado/RS. 5 applications will be carried out, every 10 days, from the lead grain phase and the incidence and severity of downy mildew in leaves and bunches will be evaluated during the period. When thebunches mature, theywillbecollectedandanalyzed in theEnologylaboratoryatthe Federal Instituteof Rio Grande do Sul, located in Bento Gonçalves/RS (IFRS), to determine enochemicalvariables, such as pH, °Brixand total acidity. The work will also be carried out "in vitro" evaluating fungus growth in Petri dishes, with PDA medium and with the same treatments used in the field. At theend, theworkand its resultswillbedisclosedthrough a technicalcommuniquéandpublications in scientificjournalsofthewine sector, whereanalternative, easyto use andwithlowercoppercontent, tothe management ofdownymildew in thevine, promotingthesustainabilityofconventionalandorganicviticulture.
