COMPARATIVE STUDY BETWEEN THE INDUSTRIAL NITRETATION PROCESS BASED ON CYANIDES AND ALTERNATIVE PROCESS BASED ON NON TOXIC SALTS
Nitriding. Bath of non-toxic salts. Pin-to-disk test.
The nitriding process is used to add a layer of nitrides to the surfaces of the parts,
increasing hardness, mechanical strength and wear resistance. The conventional
process uses toxic salts based on cyanide and cyanate. Works has been carried out
using non-toxic salts that have shown good results. Nitrided samples will be made by
the industrial process and by the process using non-toxic salts. The samples will be
analyzed and compared for roughness, microstructure, hardness and wear resistance.
A pin-to-disk test equipment will be developed to perform this test. It is intended to
evaluate the effectiveness of the nitriding process with non-toxic salts in relation to the
industrial process.
