SUMMARY:

The following article investigates tinplate, the main raw material used in the manufacture of metallic packaging components. As packaging manufacturers seek to improve their stamping processes, characterizing and obtaining quantitative information about this raw material becomes increasingly important for a better definition of the stamping process. In the study, three different specifications of tinplate were eco-friendly, with thicknesses of 0.25mm, 0.36mm and 0.40mm. All samples have a hardness of T57 and a tin layer on both sides of the sheet of
2.8/2.8 g/m. The parameters analyzed were Maximum Tension and Elongation, which were obtained through translation tests and Erichsen assay. To assess the significance of the results, the ANOVA test was initially applied, considering a significance level of p-value lower than 0.05. Based on this analysis, Tukey's test was performed, revealing that the sample means in the confidence intervals did not have common zones. This indicates that, for the specifications studied, carrying out the Erichsen test alone is not enough to obtain satisfactory results in selecting the appropriate specifications for the component stamping process. In this sense, the results suggest that it is necessary to consider other factors besides the Erichsen test to improve the definition of the stamping process. This finding is relevant for packaging manufacturers who want to achieve greater efficiency and quality in their products.
