Tribological behavior of TiCN coating on Vanadis 4 tool steel for cold working
Vanadis 4, PVD, Duplex, Cold Working
Vanadis 4 steel obtained by powder metallurgy has an extensive range of applications, such as dies and punches for cold working. As the tool surface is exposed to different stresses (mechanical, chemical and tribological) it is necessary that treatments are performed to extend the tool life. Few studies investigate surface modification to optimize the tribological behavior of this material. In this study, the combination of different treatments on Vanadis 4 samples will be evaluated. The main objective will be to find the most effective sequential method of surface treatments to improve the wear resistance of cold working tools. To this end, the surface integrity and subsurface changes produced by the various sequential processes will be studied, and their correlations with the functional properties of Vanadis 4 tool steel.
