Vitreous Ceramics for Dental Application: Review
feldspar porcelain, dental ceramics
The oral environment is exposed to chemical, mechanical and biological variations, where the materials used to repair or replace teeth need to be biocompatible, resistant and present a good aesthetic appearance. This study, through the literature review, aims to understand the processes of formulation and obtaining dental ceramics of feldspar glassy matrix. Considering the achievement of resistance and naturalness requirements, glassy and crystalline materials have been added. However, this ceramic system is still subject to failure. It is important to understand the fracture mechanisms of feldspar porcelain, which is used to cover crystalline structures, such as zirconia. It was noted that the lower strength of glassy materials, the difference in thermal coefficient, the cooling mechanisms, result in stresses that cause the flaking of feldspar porcelain; this effect, which can be minimized by reinforcing the structure of this material and adapting its forms of processing.
