SUMMARY:

This study aims to investigate the relationship between the establishment of adequate study habits and the improvement of academic performance among first-year high school students at Deoclécio Ferrugem State School, the only high school in the city of Glorinha. To achieve this, a training session on appropriate study habits will be developed and implemented, and the students' grades in quarterly report cards will be evaluated before and after the training session, referred to as the mini-course. The goal is to identify the impact of the training session on the students' academic performance. Accordingly, we will identify which study habits have effectively demonstrated an impact on their academic performance, as well as those that did not contribute to their academic success. A Study Strategies Inventory will be administered in the first quarter of 2024 to assess the students' habits before the training session, along with an examination of their grades for that quarter. The mini-course will be conducted at the beginning of the second quarter, and their grades will be collected again at the end of the second quarter. Subsequently, an analysis will be conducted to assess the impact of this training session on the grades, establishing a relationship between the grades in the first and second quarters. The final quarterly report card grades will be verified. This study will be widely disseminated at seminars organized by the State Education Network of Rio Grande do Sul and the Municipal Network of Gravataí. Additionally, all mini-course materials will be made available via email to teachers participating in these seminars, and it will also be published on the eduCAPES platform. A preliminary study was conducted at the same school with a class of third-year evening high school students, which indicated a relationship between appropriate study habits and good grades. The state of the art in this field highlights the significance of this study, particularly emphasizing the need for the implementation of public policies aimed at ensuring the rights of high school students to access and remain in this stage of Basic Education.
